Free space hire for community groups
Council town halls play a vital role in supporting local democracy and bringing together communities. Public spaces should be inclusive, accessible and free to hire.
The Greens on Council successfully negotiated for this change following a community-led campaign by local resident groups.
Thank you to the Coalition of Caring for Community Centres, Friends of Ultimo, Redfern Darlington Eveleigh Watch (REDWatch), Friends of Erskineville, Millers Point Community Resident Action Group, Friends of Pyrmont Community Centre, Pyrmont Action , Alexandria Residents Action Group - ARAG, The Glebe Society, Darlinghurst Resident Action Group, Ultimo Village Voice, 2011 Residents Action Inc, the Chippendale Residents Interest Group, and everyone who gave us feedback on how well the fee waiver has been working (and how to make it work better!) Please keep the comments coming.
How to book a space: To find what spaces are available to hire visit the City of Sydney Council website https://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/hireable-indoor-spaces.
We have also won commitments to improve the booking system, but these are a work in progress, so if you are having trouble working out what space might work for your event or meeting please contact the Office of Councillor Sylvie Ellsmore direct by email on [email protected] for our ‘how to’ guide.
