Reclaim our streets for people and nature and introduce car-free Sundays

The Greens on City of Sydney will reclaim high streets by reducing  access by cars, slowing traffic and creating welcoming public spaces by building amenities like seating and accessible footpaths. We’ll also increase tree canopy by planting a native urban forest.

We’ll introduce car-free Sundays in neighbourhoods across our city to encourage the use of streets for community events. And we’ll reduce excessive visual pollution from advertising.

GREENS ON COUNCIL PLANS

An expanded Greens Team on the next term of Council will reclaim, expand and protect public spaces by:

  • Planting native trees, shrubs and grasses to grow an urban forest with connected green corridors to promote biodiversity and provide shade during the summertime
  • Expanding public green space by protecting existing parks and building new ones, including at Moore Park and Wentworth Park
  • Bringing all core services like early childhood education, pools, gyms and garbage collection back into Council hands
  • Making all swimming pools free in the summertime
  • And more
