Provide low-cost renewables for renters with a council community battery network

That’s why we have a plan to provide cheap, locally produced, renewable energy for renters and low-income families by building a council-run community battery and solar network.

By storing excess power generated by council-owned solar during the day, community batteries can distribute power throughout the night to provide clean, low-cost energy to those who can’t install solar on their homes.

In addition to lowering energy bills for tens of thousands of homes across the City of Sydney, the construction of a community battery network would decrease our emissions and help build an ever more climate resilient community.

GREENS ON COUNCIL COST OF LIVING PLANS

An expanded Greens Team on the next term of Council will deliver stronger action to tackle the cost-of-living crisis by:

  • Making all swimming pools free in the summertime
  • Expanding council-run early childhood education
  • Building accessible, rent-capped council homes for low income families and essential workers (link to the other page)
  • Bringing all core services like early childhood education, pools, gyms and garbage collection back into Council hands
  • And more
