Our Plan
Sydney is in a housing crisis - now the second most expensive city for housing in the world. Decades of council affordable schemes have delivered only 1% of affordable housing. And we have less public housing than ten years ago. It’s clear that the business as usual approach by the City of Sydney won’t fix the crisis we now face.
That’s why we have a fully-costed plan to build, buy and deliver accessible, rent-capped council homes.
The Greens have a plan to provide cheap renewable energy for renters and low-income families by building a council-run community battery and solar network.
As the cost of electricity soars, more and more people are struggling to make ends meet. And with over half of our community renting, tens of thousands of households aren’t able to access renewables. Council can change this.
Sydney’s streets should be places for people to meet, nature to thrive and communities to gather.
That’s why we have a plan to reclaim our streets for the public good, by introducing car-free Sundays, reducing corporate advertising, slowing traffic, pedestrianising our high streets and growing an urban forest by planting native trees and shrubs.
