In October 2022, Council unanimously supported The Greens motion to have “Refugees are welcome” banners flown throughout the city.  

This was the result of consulation with the Aslyum Seekers Centre, Refugee Action Collective, Refugee Lives Matter and others. 

The City of Sydney had previously displayed banners during Refugee Week. As a result of The Greens motions, banners will be flown more often and in more locations throughout the City.  

The City of Sydney has been a strong advocate for the rights of refugees and asylum seekers and provides funding to several organsations throughout Sydney.
